Caltech president David Baltimore receives 1999 National Medal of Science
at White House
David
Baltimore, president of the California Institute of Technology, received
the 1999 National Medal of Science from President Clinton in a special
White House ceremony on Tuesday, March 14, 2000.
One
of the worlds leading scientists, Baltimore was cited for his Nobel
Prize-winning work showing that the flow of biological information is
reversed, allowing cancer-inducing viruses to become genes in cells. Baltimore
was also recognized for his leadership in academic and public policy.
He joins 11 others this year as winners of Americas most prestigious
science honor.
The ceremony
honoring all 1999 medal winners was broadcast live via satellite and via
the web to the Caltech community. If you missed the live broadcast, you
