Caltech and JPL blasted into the new year by sponsoring a float in the 2005 Tournament of Roses parade. Named “Family of Explorers,” the float towered 50 feet above the ground and provided live, bird’s-eye views of the parade route, thanks to a camera perched at the very top. Bedecked with planets, rockets, and satellites, the Caltech/JPL entry won the trophy for innovation in float design.
