The Office of Public Relations is responsible for building public awareness of Caltech and its mission. Our goal is to bring the Institute, its programs, and its people to the attention of a variety of publics—alumni, government leaders, foundations, corporations, donors and prospective donors, trustees, the media, parents, prospective students and faculty, and high-school teachers and guidance counselors. This is accomplished by

  • producing and distributing first-rate publications;
  • maintaining a Web presence that accurately reflects the Institute;
  • designing and executing public and media outreach programs that will continue to broaden Caltech's support base; and
  • operating a visitors center as the primary place of introduction and welcome to the Institute.

Caltech Public Relations is organized into seven functional groups: electronic media publications; government and community relations; media relations; periodicals; publications; public events; and the office of the vice president for public relations, which runs the visitors center and directs all other general public relations activities.

Public Relations staff members also assist other members of the Caltech community—administration, faculty, students, and alumni—with their communications needs.
